Fillmore on,...
This is simply a Night Out page that is more or less a blog on my different
live music adventures around town.

I've recently checked out a couple of new places,...
The Eclipse Cultural House for one, is a
restablished, relocated live music venue that was previously
Exit 6c, Capella's, & The Blank Slate.
Eclipse is located one block East of Peoria on
6'th street. It's a real nice place, laid out - very
much like Capella's was. Nice big bar, big dance floor,
big roomy stage, awesome sound system, and great
restrooms,...2 per gender. It's very easy to get to
with parking along the curb of a quiet neighborhood.
Parking in the rear has been proposed to come later.
I heard the band Higher Education one night which
is comprised of Dustin Pittsley, Jesse Aycock,
Rocky Frisco, Dave White, & Dave Teegarden.
It's mostly a rockin' jam band but they do a variety
of Dustin's songs and Jesse's songs with others
thrown in to keep it interesting,....and it always is !!
You combine the many talents of these fine musicians
on any given night and you're in for a special treat.
I've also attended a Dustin Pittsley Concert at Eclipse.
I'm a guitar slinger myself and always love to watch
other guitar players hone their craft,....and trust me,...
Dustin is one of the best guitar player, songwriter, & singers in town. Dustin, Donnie Wood on bass & Doug Wehmyer on drums are an awesome 3 piece Blues Rock power trio that never fail to impress and blow me away.
Last Fall I rode the scooter out to the Vault in Owasso which is now Fishbonz - Owasso,...as there are two Fishbonz now,....the other, & original - is out on South Sheridan - just South of 61'st.
I rode out there on request from my pretty friend TJ - to hear the band Infinity,...one of her favorites. Fishbonz - Owasso is a cool place. Nice little patio in front marked with scooter parking and parking all the way around as well. Nice stage, roomy with nice separated gaming area,...and quite yummy food. Big bar, nice restrooms, adequate staff,....very nice.
Infinity is a five piece classic rock cover band.
They do a great variety of songs you don't hear anyone else do, from Journey, Boston, Styx, Kansas, Foreigner, Head East,... and they do them quite well. A real nice bunch of guys too - I might add. You can have a blast and dance all night - with Infinity. I'm glad I went and I had a great time ! (09/09)

"Red Dirt,...Songs From The Dust" is a delightful, poignant, triumphant, Love Letter to the Tulsa Sound & The growing Red Dirt Movement here in Tulsa - 3 years in the making - by London's Lata Gouveia. And a sweet, sweet declaration to the incredible, overflowing music talent that seems to just seep out of Oklahoma soil like weeds in an abandoned garden.
- Last night's private screening of Lata's one hour Documentory at Tulsa landmark; Circle Theater 05/17/10, was a pleasure and a joy. With EVERY seat filled with local musicians, perveyors of Red Dirt, & live music in general,...including Mayor Bartlett. Lata deserves many, many congratulations on such a fine, fine movie,... and Tulsa's undying gratitude for shining a light on our treasure trove of talent and wonderful people,...particularly; Rocky Frisco, The Red Dirt Rangers, Tom Skinner, Randy Crouch, & the late Bob Childers. With cameos throughout by local Radio personalities and musicians.
- I'm not sure when we Tulsans will be able to obtain a copy of our own but I'm sure the word will spread quickly when this happens and I urge everyone - music lover or not - to get a copy and cherish it.
- The After-Party and Jam Session at Eclipse was spectacular !!
Practically everyone that viewed the film made it to the party.
With rotating performances by The Dustin Pittsley Band, The Red Dirt Rangers w/ Randy Crouch, & Jesse Aycock, Steve Pryor, Don White, Paul Benjaman, Sage, Scott Aycock, Dave Teegarden Jr. and a variety of assorted musicians I haven't met but definitely need to.
What a night !!
Thank you Lata !!
- Eric Clapton & His Band Rock The BOK -
March 3rd, 2010
Eric and his band were at Tulsa's BOK Center
on Tuesday, March 2. - One of only eleven in
North America this year. All the early reports
indicated Eric rocked the BOK. It was a
"hometown show" for bandmember
Walt Richmond (keyboards). Opening with
"Going Down Slow," Eric took the audience
on a musical tour of his career touching on
his blues roots, his work with
Derek & The Dominos, Cream, and his ample
solo catalog.
The cameras were focused on his fingers for
most of the evening.
My favorite portion of the evening was just
Eric, in a chair, w/ mic & an acoustic, under
a spotlight. Just INCREDIBLE finger picking !!
Sustain and runs that blew me away !! There's
a REASON he's one of the greatest guitar players
in the world. He thanked Tulsa several times,
and even gave a shout-out to " Two Tulsa Musicians
I've always admired: David Teegarden & Tommy
Tripplehorn"
The Who's Roger Daltrey opened the evening
for a 45 minute set of Who songs,...and was quite
impressive !! The guy can still belt em out !!
- One fan commented from his
iPhone right after the show,
"The 7 hour drive to Tulsa was worth it.
A veteran of many shows since '74, I can
say his playing is better than ever."
L-R,...Tulsa's Walt Richmond on the Hammond B3, Eric Clapton, Chris Stainton on Keys, Steve Gadd on Drums. ( Willy Weeks on Bass & Michelle John & Sharon White - backing vox - aren't visible. )

I recently heard a couple of bands I should mention,...
as I completely enjoyed all three. (01/12/10)
"The Sell Outs" are an awesome band of young men that
are quite talented at making good music.
A fun band that plays a different night of songs you
won't hear other bands do. Jason Mraz, John Legend,
Cake, Bill Withers, & other rockin' dance songs are
what these guys do - Quite well !!
And lead singer - Jake - can sing just about any song
and make it better.
The newly formed "Under The Gun" with;
Pwe, Randall, & Scotty being joined by Ember's Jamin,
is a fine, fine and very entertaining band that will keep
you dancin' and havin fun all night as well !! All 4 of these
boys sing and play and have an obvious ball doin' it !! My
personal favorite: The song 'Hicktown' - freakin' ROX !!
Chuk Cooley & The Demon Hammers is a different
type of band,...but a very GOOD one. I found their
level of acoustic music ability quite outstanding.
I was really taken with the great rhythm playing.
For their show to contain all original music I have to say
the songs are very good and well written and I was
quite impressed and thouroughly enjoyed the evening.
Lasers & smoke don't hurt either,...kind of lends a mystical
quality to the show that only makes it better.

A few local bands of note - here in Tulsa:
Pat Quinn & Friends at Roadside Bar - 10'th & Sheridan,
Formerly The Scene & Checkers - is a fine Blues Rock
cover band that plays every Tuesday night starting around
8:00 or so. Made up of 6 of Tulsa's finest veteran
musician's from as many as 15 or more bands.
Blues singer deluxe & blues harp player; Pat Quinn
is talented singer with most excellent timing.
Sax Man - Mike Winebrenner- is part of this band as well.
Joined by: Kevin Phariss & Dane Trout on guitars,
Shawn Roach on Bass, and David Knight on Drums.
Plus Guest members that will blow you away on ANY
given night !!! Tell em Curt of Curt's List sent you !!!
For a rockin' good party - each & every time - check out
Sweatin Bullets. A four piece, Hard Rock Band that plays
originals and covers, and never fails to thoroughly entertain.
Hurricane Mason is always entertaining and fun !! Classic Rock
covers & Matt's rockin' originals are done quite well by this
semi-national power trio. Matt Mason - lead singer, and another
acomplished Tulsa guitar player, songwriter, singer also teaches
guitar. You'll swear - when you hear these guys - that there are
at least two guitar players on stage,...if not three !! The mighty
Ace Eversole on Bass, and Shawn "Animal" Montgomery even out
this awesome power trio !! One of my favorite bands in town !!
The young Pipeful of Blues Band boasts a pretty
female lead singer (Robin) that sings the blues
like a seasoned pro !! This band gets better and
better every time they play. Classic Rock
& Blues covers.
Liquid Static is an up & coming band that will play
anywhere anyone will let em !! They do a completely
different bunch of songs than a lot of bands around
town and entertain the masses - each & every time.
Mike "Scratch": guitar & vox, Jay: bass & vox,
Jimi: lead guitar, & Augusta: drums.
