From: "Strictly UnRestricted Bootleg Vol. II"- The Wanda Watson Band - Spring 2009
- "My favorite on the Strictly UnRestricted Bootleg Vol. II is probably 'Crazy Baby' ", Wanda Watson reveals,..."It's a Joan Osborn song that she wrote pretty much low key & acoustic... when we got hold of it, we turned it into a rock ballad because - at heart - I'm a rock 'n roller baby ! I actually started out my career in the early 80's in an all original rock n' roll band. Anyway, it just needed some umpf up in it - ya know ? - Anyway, it had huge reflections of my past, the way I felt when I was out there - in the problem - during the late 80's and early 90's, the sadness, the defeat, the wanting to give up and die feelings - that I could reflect on back then - and never forget to this day. I don't think anyone in the problem - that comes out on the other side of it - forgets that feeling of loneliness... even when you were never really alone. God was always there,I knew that, never questioned it, I just was full of reckless abandon at that time in my life, had a death wish and an agenda to get there in my own time instead of His time. The song is someone telling that person in despair to Hang On, Don't Give Up, Don't Turn Out the Light - You are LOVED and Needed !! It touches a lot of hearts and souls, which is what I'd like to believe I do when I sing. God gave me a gift to tell my stories with, so that's what I try to do, that's what I'll always do,
forever and ever - Amen". - w.w.
From: "V4.0" - Sweatin' Bullets - 2013
Offered by Lead Guitarist Ron Harper:
"Hey curt. We're up & running on iTunes and Reverbnation. As far as my favorite song on the CD, that was really difficult so my conclusion would be 'Look Out Now'. The reason for my decision is this; Shortly after (Drummer) Mike Hanson joined the band, we started jammin on this groove at band practice and ended up writing what would be the first of many original songs. At that point I knew we had good chemistry with these 4 members. That first song was 'Look Out Now'."

From: The Paul Benjaman Band - "The New Tulsa Sound Vol 2" - 2012
When I first heard this track, which leads off on the album, I didn't know who was performing it...with the name New Tulsa Sound I had to immediately check...as this song incredibly channels an Eric Clapton/JJ Cale vibe & sound from the 461 Ocean Blvd. era when Clapton's entire Rhythm section were 'Tulsa Boys' ...even the awesome guitar playing sounds like Slowhand himself was sittin' in !! ...So much so - I had to find out if it was actually written by either one of them...or Paul Benjaman. Very Nice ! This is one of the finest tracks on the album. I'd keep an eye & a set of ears on this Paul Benjaman...he's definitely got some Clapton in him !! - c.f.
From The Self Titled Album (by) - Tom Skinner - 2012
When one thinks of the music capital of the United States - Stillwater, Oklahoma likely never comes to mind. But in the early '80's Stillwater was a hotbed of musical talent. Austin rocker Jimmy LaFave began his career there. Legendary songwriter Bob Childers did, too. Even mega-star Garth Brooks got started in Stillwater. But the voice that most embodies Oklahoma "red dirt" music would have to be Tom Skinner.
The musical story of Tom Skinner began up the road from Stillwater, in Bristow, Oklahoma. This is where Tom was raised and began singing, at an early age, in the church choir. He took up playing guitar while serving in the military inthe late 1970s. After the military, Tom returned home to settle into the life of a professional musician. During the early and mid 1980s Tom played throughout Oklahoma. He made a name for himself as a solo performer and as the leader of a hot country band, the 'Skinner Brothers Band' (a group that included Tom's younger brothers Mike and Craig). His instrumental abilities on both guitar and bass led to a stint in Sante Fe, a band that featured a then unknown Garth Brooks. Their talents took them to Nashville and propelled
Brooks to phenomenal success. Tom was less than thrilled with the 1980s Nashville scene and returned to Stillwater to head up a band called The Twanglers. The mid 1990s brought about a change in musical fortunes for Tom Skinner. During a two year stay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tom's music came to the attention of a small record company. Although he had often been approached about recording, the pieces just never quite fit. This time they did. Skinner returned to Oklahoma in
early 1996 to record "Times Have Changed" for Binky Records. Released in 1997, "Times Have Changed"
is a stunning collection of thirteen original compositions by Tom and some of his Okie compadres. Early pressings of the disc include two additional acoustic tracks. One song from the disc, 'Maybe It's Love', was licensed for use in a film while another, 'Water Your Own Yard', was recorded (though not yet released) by southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. A song from the CD, "Goin' Down the River Road", was later recorded by Cajun music star Waylon Tibodeaux.
Tom Skinner continues to be a force in the Oklahoma Red Dirt scene. Several of his songs were featured in the recent gospel CD "Dirt & Spirit" by The Great Divide and
Friends (check it out at www.thegreatdivide.com). It has often been said that Tom Skinner
is the greatest songwriter you have never heard of. Time will surely change this !

Every Wednesday you'll find Tom Skinner's Science Project over at one of Tulsa's most legendary bars The Colony / 2809 S. Harvard - once owned as a go-go bar by Tulsan Leon Russell. Stories still tell of the nights when a young Eric Clapton would frequent the bar with his friend George Harrison & they would sit in a corner & jam together. - c.f.
Tom has since passed but his memory & spirit will live on forever.
From: Jim Sweney & Charles Tubberville - A 45 record they cut after the full Vinyl Album "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" - Year ? / Flip Side: "It Ain't Right" / What an outstanding recording !! This is exactly how they sounded back when I was front table at Tulsa's Extinct "Santa's Inland Bay" wayyyy back in the early 80's. - c.f.
